Well he said that HMRC were incompetent and didnt understand their own rules, but not sure how that will help anyone !

The problem was (and was what I tried to get to the bottom of before I went in) was that they pick up on any financial connections between couples, which they then flag to investigate them.

I explained why we had a financial connection (ran a business together, had a joint mortage etc.) and proved that were were not together any more (I even had an email from my next door neighbour saying when he had moved out!) but one particular female employee had a real issue because she seemed to think that proving the financial connection was proving that we were de-frauding the state.

The simple fact that our divorce was petitioned early this year should have been proof enough, but this employee seemed to think that her 'proof' that we still have a joint bank account would lose me the tribunal?!? (there is no way that I will close down our joint bank account whilst I have an overdraft on my sole account, if they were to remove my overdraft from me I owuld be in severe dire straights!)
