Good and bad things about your town/area

There is a site on the web where people can write reviews about the town they live in. It´s really interesting, but all I read is negative things about EVERY town in the uk! Come on people, the uk isnt *that* bad! I thought it would be fun to have a thread where you write about the bad and the *good* things of the town/area/county you live in. (I hope this is in the write place, really wasnt sure where to put it)

I`ll start. I live in the West Midlands (county), I would state the exact place if it was a bigger town, but as its a small place I`d rather not. (you can choose yourself how detailed you want to be)

Bad things:
It looks grubby in some spots, seems to have quite a few "rough areas". All in all I`d prefer to live in a more rural, pretty place but that isnt the Midlands fault, it´s always been a working class place I think.

Good things:
Most people here are really nice, at least in the spot where I live. They thank the bus driver and it´s really easy to start a conversation with strangers in the supermarket loos :rotfl:They also seem to be really helpful, had that on several occasions now. I really do like this about the place.

  • I am from the West Midlands too.

I grew up in an area that was notorious to other areas as being the hotspot for crime, however, I have never been a victim or seen much of it. The city centre for this area was manic and had some amazing and classy shops, alot of the people that went to the city centre looked very stylish and took time in their appearance before setting out.

I then moved to another area of the West Midlands (to be with my partner! The things you do for love hey!) I wished I stayed where I originally came from! The area I moved to is full of chavs just loitering and not serving much of a purpose! There are a few kids who have watched The Krays or Goodfellas one too many times and they think they are hard. There is always some sort of drama in this city. It is like the city where Jeremy Kyle could get his guests! The city centre is run down. Alot of the women here do not speak quietly, they shout!

    Bad things:
The town planners have made a bit of a mess of the city centre: Ugly grey rectangle housing the shopping centre and car parks, prime riverside locations nabbed by the council offices, court and bus station rather than businesses that would benefit from the lovely views, ridiculous inner-ring road system.
Several grotty housing estates on outskirts that need investment..
Distance from the sea (2.5 hours drive)

    Good things:
    Peak district on the doorstep.
Comparatively affordable houses (can still get a perfectly decent first home for £100k)
Pretty easy to get to most parts of GB within a few hours due to reasonable rail and road links.
Some nice architecture if you look for it.
    Incredibly loyal DCFC fans.

Im from a little village near Derby.

    Bad:
The whole area is run down with some bad spots such as the local council estate. The area has a chavvy reputation and that other people look down upon. We dont have a lot of high end shops locally so a lot of discount shops. There was suppose to be a golf course and fancy hotel built to bring up the area but about 10 years later its still an empty field. I sometimes struggle to find days out when the weather is bad that isnt a good drive away, expensive or shopping.

    Good:
The area has very good road links and due to being in the middle of the country you are only a few hours from anywhere else in the country. The people tend to be nice, carry no airs or graces and always willing to help strangers out. There are lots of beautiful places for outdoor walks, which is great for cheap days out.
