  • Make a claim for Housing Benefit. Will probably only be taken from following Monday after claim made but you can request backdating. Let them know about fluctuations in wages - will probably recalculate every 5 weeks on 5 weeks average wages.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

No one can stop you applying. Your income will be calculated on an average of your last 5 weeks wages taking into account the peaks and troughs of your income. The longer you put off making a claim the higher your potential rent arrears will grow. Have you tried to see if you might qualify for Working Tax Credits?

30 hours only applies to people without children or disabilities.
