If the bank has wiped your old bank account from their databases?

Quick one for you,

I had an account with the Halifax from 2001-2004. Looking to claim charges from it but no longer have bank details - the branch of the Halifax I visited to find out bank details, sort code etc reckon I no longer show on their systems.

Has my account been deleted from their databases? Is it gone for good, or were they just not looking hard enough?

Alex

I think its very unlikey that they have deleted all trace of you as im pretty sure that they are legally obliged to keep financial records for many years. Why on earth would a Bank delete records? It is more likey that they havent got your account listed as active.

If you send the request template to them with payment of the Data Protection charge they should send it to you. If they do not then there are in breach of the law and can face stiff charges.

The Bank legally have to keep details of your account for 6 years.

I had a similar issue with Abbey. You just have to either find someone at the branch that can access the old system, of contact head office and get them to find it for you.

Best thing to do is go back in to the branch and ask them to look harder or contact Head Office while you wait. If you had tied accounts ie mortgage or loan with them and still have details of them take them with you. If you have moved since you closed your account take details of your past address and fill in the change of address form while you are there - DONT GIVE UP :)
