My soil is ostensibly clay but has been well bulked up over yrs, I lost a new erynguim ages ago , msybe it got too wet over winter.
I have a new one so where and how to plant it? A very deep hole filled eith compost , gritted, or will that just seep away?
Same question for thalictrums, got 2 new ones to position, where?
is it safer to overwinter in pots or are perrenial roots best underground?

I'd certainly add some compost and then dig that in, plenty of grit too and chuck more into the bottom of the hole. AFAIK these plants don't need rich soil but they do hate having roots wet over winter.0
