Tire puncture repair?

I have a slow leak on one of my car tires. Unfortunately I don't have a spare wheel (not even a space-saver). I was happy enough to find someplace to fix it, until I started Googling it and read loads of stories about people being ripped off. I'm new to the area, so don't have a trusted garage/mechanic (never needed to go to one).

Any tips for finding someone who won't try to take me to the cleaners?

Sadly it may not be repairable - all depends on where the puncture is. They should only be repaired if in the 3rd of the bottom tread area that is the middle, anywhere else & there could be a blowout with serious consequences. Are you sure that it's not a leaky valve?
  • I know that it might not be repairable, and if that is the case, I'll happily replace it. I just read what seems to be endless stories of people told that it can't be fixed, only to go elsewhere who says it can. I just don't want to be ripped off (i'm not fantastically car-savvy, so it would be easy to do).

I don't know if it is the valve. How do you check?

Count yourself lucky that it's only a slow puncture.
What would you do this morning if you'd had a blow out. You need to get yourself a spare wheel.

  • I do count myself lucky that it is a slow leak. In almost 20 years of driving I have never had a leak, or a blow out. Plenty of other stuff, but not this, which is why I asked for advice.

If I had a blow out this morning, I would call my breakdown service and be late for work. I am also lucky that this would not risk my job.

Seeing as how you have no spare or spacesaver, would these be run-flat tyres by any chance - if so, it's difficult to find someone who will repair them.

So get yourself a spare wheel.
Ebay Regularly has single wheels, which are loads better than space savers.
