Be warned about Scottish power I was on a key meter I swapped from them to spark energy they sent them my final meter reading three months later I moved address and got sent a final bill from Scottish power for £198 after contacting them was told it was an estimated how come on a key meter if I don't top my key up I get no electric then was told the price of energy goes up and down every day so if I had paid on my key one day the next day went up I would need to pay the extra load of crap so I said if I had bought petrol from a garage and the next day it goes up I would need to go in and pay the difference. anyway after three months of phone calls and them sending my account to a debit agency I have now got the account cleared and they owe me £12 but no form of apologise from them what so ever these people are suppose to be offering us a service but they just don't care about us little people.0

Indeed, hence my posting to warn others that SP were up to something. Since my original posting I've spoken to SP's Complaints staff directly (as against talking to Customer Services). Their explanation is that it is down to a new accounting system. They've agreed to recast my 2014 billing and to pay compensation. I'll report back once I feel that the issue is closed.
In the mean time, yes, SP customers should check their billing from at least the start of the year to check that billing End Readings and Start Readings across and within that period are contiguous. In my case the error was a significant 235 cubic metres - therefore an overcharge of just about £100.
I cannot comment on electricity at present, there being other SP incompetencies which have resulted in my receiving no electricity charges at all since January. SP have promised me a proper bill - for both fuels - by 2nd June. Once this is analysed I'll report back if necessary.
Here's more feedback. Scottish Power have still not resolved the issue - indeed they have gone quite silent (almost, see below). I put in a written complaint which they acknowledged on 20th June - with a promise of a response within 5 working days. Huh!
The only contact I have had from them is over my decision to switch to a slightly cheaper tariff. The result was that they increased my monthly Direct Debit to £3,489.83 ! Naturally, I complained and the promise was a return to the previous £110 per month. A few days later they sent a message that "as requested" the DD would be £1,708.36 per month. Another phone protest brought it back down to £110, only to be superceded 4 hours later by a lift to £160 per month. As of Friday evening it was back down to £110.
Now the only rationale to this is that the £1,708.36 was the Yearly estimate for my consumption under the new tariff - and this, plus all of the other errors, suggests to me that SP have suspended their new accounting package and are working on a manual basis with all that that implies in an environment where everyone has stopped thinking for themselves. ("Well, the computer takes care of it all, doesn't it?")
Anyone within SP like to confirm this?0 -
I have encountered a similar situation.. after getting a £300 refund back in april, which should have still left me in credit - the overview page shows me as being in debit ever since.
However as i submit readings monthly, the "actual" bills that are generated via PDF show the correct amount.
So as of this month - the overview is showing me as £168 in debit(wrong) - however the actual bill shows i am £80 in credit (correct)
Currently i cba chasing this issue with them.. but i am ensuring i keep records of everything - although i have strategically just changed tarriff with them (from march 2015-sept 2015) the new one as well as being a few quid cheaper, has no exit fees.0
