My husband made a thing out of saying "my wife" / "my wife and I" in his speech. Everytime he said it (with emphasis, whilst glancing/gazing at me) everybody went Awwww/Ahhhh… and I thought it was really romantic!

The one thing we would have changed about our wedding? Do the speeches BEFORE you eat if you can, so your nerves are out of the way and you can eat in relaxed comfort.

Good luck with everything, and best wishes for your future together.
Whoops there goes another year, there goes another pint of

My husband pulled a sheet out of his pocket, and started witht he words "I finally found some time to write this..." And then unfolded his speech - on the back of an Andrex packet!! Got a good giggle, everyone chilled and the rest went well!!

If you tell a joke, move swiftly on to the next part of the speech. If they laugh you can always pause until they finish. However if you pause for laughter and it doesn't come, it just looks awkward and cringy.

Another vote for short and sweet too.

Relax and enjoy it, all the pressure is on the best man to deliver.

My husband talked about how we first met... The fact he asked me out many a time before I actually agreed.... That god a lot of laughs, so something funny which your bride will also find funny too!!

Agree with others about keeping it short, to the point, with a mention of how beautiful she looks and happy you are. And for everyone to enjoy the day. :)

    Good luck!

A good speech is like a bikini - enough material to cover the important bits, but leaves enough out to let the casual onlooker enjoy it too.

Keep it as short as possible:
Thank everyone for coming (especially if difficult)
Thank the best man (especially for the stag do)
Say how wonderful the bridesmaids look (especially the little one)
Thank your parents (and other family) for "being there for you"
Thank the brides parents & family for welcoming you into their family (whether they do or not)
Say how wonderful the bride is & how lucky you are
Everyone will thank you for keeping it short!

Remember to warn the guests to be discrete with their bottles..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
