would this work?

just wanting to pick some of your brains if i could.

Five years ago i made a stupid mistake in the midst of post baby blues and let my husband drive my car uninsured to the chemist to pick up my prescription. Unfortunately he was caught and i received a IN14 conviction dated the 6th september 2009.

Now i think this will no longer have to be notified to insurance companies after that date this year, please correct me if im wrong. My insurance is due for renewal on the 22nd August and my tax runs out on 30th. Ive been looking at renewal prices and they are still pretty steep due to having to declare this conviction.

My plan and this is where im asking your help to see if it is doable is;

notify my insurance company i do not wish to renew and declare my car sorn. I will leave my car on the drive, obviously i wont be driving it uninsured (trust me ive learnt my lesson) for two 2-3 weeks. Once my conviction date has passed try and get a much more reasonable quote and then tax the car. Is it possible to declare a car as sorn for as little as two weeks?, do i then just go to the post office to re-tax with relevant documents. Is this all legal, i dont want to do anything that is gonna land me in trouble.

    Try Churchill as I'm almost sure when I was doing a car insurance quote with them a few months ago that they only needed convictions up to 3 years. However that may have been losses on house insurance as I did both with them. Worth checking just in case.

    As long as you are happy to have the car sat uninsured on your drive for the two weeks I dont really think you need to sorn the car for the sake of six days.

    My daughter had problems taxing a car due to no v5 and the DVLA told her that they would not chase anything up for at least a month as long as it was off road.

    I think you can do the SORN online now? With the new rules, it needs to be off road and SORNed from 22 Aug.

  • I hope you didn't use your real name when doing quotes. They record everything and some of the less reputable insurers will randomly cancel your insurance if you suddenly remove a conviction, even if it has expired.
