Independent Report on Car

My car had a rather catastrophic engine failure and is going to cost thousands to fix. As the car is out of warranty, I would need to prove it was faulty when I purchased (20 months ago) in order to claim against the dealer. Can anyone recommend any good companies who do this? Am I best just to try a local garage or are there specialists?

you need to give more info on this like the age of the car the mileage when the car failed
also what makes you think it was faulty when you bought it?0 -

It's a 5 1/2 year old VW Golf 1.9TDI Match. 70k miles.

Yes correct, its the famous BXE engine out of a Golf tdi - 70k miles.
Anyone have any recommendations?
I don't know for sure it was faulty when bought. Don't think conrods just bust through the engine block randomly though.
That is why I need an independent report as its the only chance of claiming against dealer.0 -
it appears that the BXE engine is suffering a small number of similar failures and i say a small number because it is small when you consider the volume that engine was made in
I really think you are going to struggle to find anybody that will give you a report saying the engine has an inherent defect that has caused this problem
and you are up against the might of VAG who are saying that the small number of failures are not a big issue and they will deal with them on a case by case basis
I very much doubt you will ever get VAG to pick up the bill for your replacement motor
the car has obviously been back in the dealers looking at your previous thread, what have they said about the engine failure and what did they offer to do for you
this sounds like a similar situation to the BMW N47 timing chain issue where BMW are saying there is not a problem with that engine regardless of some cars snapping the chain and destroying the engine
the BMW N47 engine was featured on watchdog but BMW has not changed its stance and says they will deal with the failures on a case by case basis0 -
Well VOSA have told me that they are investigating a number of similar issues, its enough to make them investigate. From numerous forums I've been on, its not just coincidence.
I'm not attempting to claim from VW, I bought the car from Benfield Renault. I wouldn't even bother going down the road of going after VW as they still deny any problem. The Manager of Benfield is supposed to be ringing me tomorrow and I'm hoping for some sort of goodwill gesture from him, considering how much I paid for the car and the fact we had it in and out the garage so many times. Obviously we have no legal rights though.
I've been told that this conrod problem is caused by a faulty fuel pump so thought if I had an independent look at it, they might be able to tell me if it had been faulty. This is the only way I would ever legally get anything out of Benfield.0
