That wouldn't last me a week and there are only two of us. The carrots would be gone within a few days as would the potatoes.0 -

I see your point, but remember you get other veg too, so it is not like you would be having carrots every night. I suppose with the pots you are meant to have enough for about 3 or 4 days and then most people have pasta or rice a couple of days a week.:beer:0 -
You can order extra potatoes and various other things. I have pasta, couscous, pizza, rice etc as bases and seldom use potato as a base. Mine usually end up in soup. It depends on your diet. I don't eat meat so don't have meat, potato and veg meals.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Sounds like a good idea, if I lived alone I may well have gone for it. As it is, we cook all from scratch so we use tons of veg. My best bargain this week was a massive ( I mean huge - think size of a rugby ball) cauli I got for 25p, Iv'e made spinach & cauli curry, soups, cauli cheese & I've still got about half left. our big expense is meat (again alone I prob wouldnt buy it). I think its best to spend more on it and eat less of it, but thats just us. I read your msg about salad Phil and I agree too, we have x4 growbags full of lettuce and its so good will def grow more next year. (I'm also growing lots of sorrel as I use it in salads & as a spinach). We bake own bread every day (Magimix) I think it works out a lot cheaper plus you know whats in it. I've learned so much from this board.0

I bought the tesco one to-day - very good quality veg - 10 items for £10 and the beetroot is wonderful - I made mushroom soup already and boiled the beetroot and will have salad with the lettuce and tomatoes and the beetroot with our dinner tonight with some of their potatoes. I would buy it again - also had nectarines and plums in.
Edited to add - 1kg potatoes, 5 beetroot, 4 nectarines, 6 plums, 1 cabbage, bunch of spring onions, 1 lettuce, 2 red peppers, 1 tub mushrooms, 1 packet mini tomatoes
OMG NO! This defeats entire idea of organic vegboxes! Cant you see tesco are just jumping on the bandwagon? If people buy their awful boxes there will be no local organic veg boxes!
Riverford/River Nene/ River Swale/Norton cover most of england/wales - please look them up!
Your tesco organic veg has prob travelled 1000 miles around the country before getting to you - it'd the worst kind of economy ever!0 -

Absolutely great - totally ethical company. Do all sorts of add-ons, dairy& meat too!
Boycott supermarkets - save proper food!0 -
I have to agree with the tesco box. I get mine from rivernene, they are great.
I get about 1KG pots, 1 LB carrots, that size. Lasts the 2 of us with a few top-ups of peppers etc. Though we dont' really care for cabbage, and we get one at least once a month. Oh well!0 -
I stopped my riverford box because I was sick to death of getting Jerusalem artichokes which no matter what they were disguised with could still be tasted.
I also found that the amount of veg diminished over time.
I have not had one of their boxes for nearly two years so if they have improved again then I will most definately get them because the quality was great. One week I had 6 avocados which would be grand if any of us could eat them!Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
I tried Abel and Cole - overpriced. Not worth it. The tomatoes were excellent but apart from that the quality wasn't great and half the veg was rotten the day after we got it.0

Did you complain?? If I have a problem with my box I let the farmer know and he always replaces it. That's rivernene., not abel + cole.
Kaz, if you dont' like jerusalem artichokes, I'll take 'em. They make a liovely soup + great crisps - how were you cooking them?0
