    Don't worry, not my car. Wouldn't ever own a car with a EPL. Mate owns an independent garage and that's how much they charged a customer to change it. Bigger job than you think, and the mechanism and gear housing is about £300 odd quid from VW alone.

    Not fun.

    My car has an EPB. I don't like it, because it takes a little bit more of the control away from the driver.

    Having said that tho, when I switch the engine off, it automatically engages. When I have it on, and want to move away from the lights, it turns off. Quite clever actually.

    But that's a Toyota for you.

    That's how it works on the VW too, so seamless and unintrusive, I'm confused though with the comment about taking away control ?
    All the auto features for me just make the car more of a pleasure to drive, AEB is another feature on there too which is part of the EB system.

    What Toyota have you got? Mine bloody doesn't do it. I have parked mine up outside my house and had the next door neighbour knocking on my door asking me where my car is. It has disappeared 1/2 way down the road ! lol I now put it in 1st before I get out of the car anywhere.

    I hate my car !:mad::rotfl:

    '14 plate Avensis. Have a look at your manual. It should say whether the EPB automatically engages/disengages.

    If the manual says that the EPB automatically engages when the ignition is turned off, then you need to get it into your garage to get it fixed.

    On the VW the EPB works in conjunction with the "hill hold" system, now if you disable (switch off) the hill hold, perhaps you wish to low speed manoeuvre, like park, it also disables the EPB and that will not activate on parking but let car roll away locked. If you are in the habit of fiddling with these buttons it is good practice when you start up to look at the centre console to see the HH system light is on before driving off.
    The EPB system is basically simple so long as you don't mess with it./

    From experience, if you activate the EPB on a Range Rover at high speed (in excess of 100mph) it stops very very quickly!! (also safely, in a controlled emergency stop, in a straight line)

    And before anyone pipes up, this was on a dedicated test track.

    This is a 60 plate avensis I have, which is getting shut of in a few months anyway, so I will leave it for the unsuspecting person who buys it to sort.

    Has been off the road 4 days so far in last month, getting the aircon fixed, which was fixed and now packed up again. Also needed 2 new shocks put on in opposite sides ( OSF and NSR) The car has been acting like a blancmange for the past 18 months and the dealer has said nothing wrong with it, it has only done 65k, so that's why I am going for a VW instead next time. lol
