Separation - please help

I know there are similar posts, but I need some advice and didn't want to upset someone else by moaning instead of offering advice when they had asked for help.
I married an Australian and he went back home to visit the family and has been giving me excuses as to why he hasn't come back for the past 10 months, I have been lovingly waiting for him. This week he was again due back (or that is what he told me) and came up with another excuse, when I didn't hear from him and rang around, I discovered he hadn't quit his job to come over (as he told me he had) but has actually gone on holiday for 3 weeks instead. Since I know I will continue waiting for him for the rest of my life and continue to believe his lies, I need to do something about this. I can apply for divorce in February on the grounds of desertion, but does anyone know what I have to do to get a deed of separation, I know it isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, but I need to do something now, he knows I will keep believing him, and continues with comments of I love you and want to be with you. Our marriage has only broken down because he has lied to me for the past 10 months about coming back. I know I could go over but that would just mean accepting all his lies, and for all I know he is already living with someone else (he has lied about everything else)
Is there anything else I can do, any help would be much appreciated. There aren't really any questions about money, I want him to pay me back for his visa and his wedding ring (but could live without that if it came to it, it's just the principle of it), but he has never even set foot in the house I bought, and he signed a form to say that he wouldn't make a claim on it anyway.
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

First step is to surely tell him you are filing for divorce if he doesn't come back to talk about the situation in person within 1 week.
If you do go ahead with the divorce then you will need to instruct a solicitor.
