Hi
can anyone recommend any complaines to try for travel insurance. My 9 year old daughter is undergoing tests as had a seizure back in May and our current insurance says a person is not covered if they have been referred to a consultant and awaiting test results.
Thanks in advance
ann

Has the doctor suggested a cause? If it might be epilepsy (only 1 possibility), you might like to look at the following link https://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/travel-insurance
However I don't think that any insurer will cover an undiagnosed condition. Has she had any further seizure since then?

    Hi
Thanks for the response, will have a look at the link. At the moment she is still undiagnosed & has not had any further seizures since. She did have a seizure back in 2011 so they are doing tests. Her EEG came back normal and she has a sleep EEG booked for Tuesday. Epilepsy is still an option they are looking at, her heart tracing has come back with minor heart block during sleep but the consultant does not believe this would have caused her seizure.
    Sorry for the essay!
The holiday was booked and paid for last year, would not be venturing so far otherwise (4h 15m flight) & tbh will be glad to get back
    Thanks again

Did you have a policy in place before the seizure and did you declare the seizure from 2011 when you took it out?

    Hi Wammaer
I have a policy that was put into place when the holiday was booked so before the seizure in May but it does not cover any undiagnosed conditions such as this is at present. I did not list the 2011 seizure as at the time it was deemed to be a febrile convulsion because she was unwell at the time, I appreciate in hindsight I should have still done this but we thought it was a one off as Dr's said it was common when children get unwell & not anything to worry about unless there was another episode.

When are the results of the tests due, the appointment with the consultant and when is the holiday?

The last test is a sleep EEG Tuesday, the results should be with the consultant within a few days so hoping by the end of the week, fingers crossed. The consultant appointment isn't until November, he said if there's an issue with the sleep EEG results then he would be in contact to advise. The holiday is the 10th of August.

The EEG may not prove anything. In general they only contribute to the diagnosis if a patient has a seizure during the test. If nothing happens, perhaps you should discuss with the GP exactly what you should say to the insurers.

I would contact your consultant and / or GP when the results are back and ask if there is a diagnosis you can give the insurer.
