OS Daily Sunday 20th July 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Very cloudy and overcast, but still very warm and humid. We had a couple of storms yesterday but 1 that was thunder and lightning for quite a while and had a horrendous downpour with it, we had a temporary flood in our garden, as did lots of people, the amount of water that fell in a few minutes was unbelievable, there was lots of standing water and flooded roads, but most seem now to be dried up, as the sun came out afterwards and it remained hot and humid.

Will water plants and greenhouse at a more reasonable hour, once I’ve had a shower and got dressed.

DH up and enjoying a peaceful first cuppa of the day whilst I’m on here.

Dinner last night was a naughty takeaway – I’d planned a quick and easy dinner for last night, but mum and dad are away in their “new to them” caravan and have desperately wanted us to go and have a proper look and give them a hand to put the awning up so they then know how to do it for themselves. They’ve got a great little buy, it’s absolutely immaculate and had loads of extras with it. We spent more time with them than we’d anticipated so were late home. I have picked some HG green beans and now have 3 bags full in the freezer, and we’re getting more daily. I also picked some HG “orangino” tomatoes, that are orange in colour not the normal red, they were lovely in my salad yesterday lunchtime. We don’t have any more HG potatoes, so it’s back to buying them unfortunately, but will harvest what other veg we can from our little garden and pots.

I managed to buy the inner tent that we need as our old one has gone in the bin.

I managed to make a toffee loaf in the breadmaker but not sure how it tastes, I’m sure the menfolk will tell me if it’s not good!

Really going to be ultra good for the next few weeks until we go on holidays, as it gives me some more wriggle room as we tend to eat and drink a bit more whilst we’re on our hols, although I can’t eat that much of anything to rich these days as it makes me feel yukky.

We’re going to have a chilled day, although DS1 needs some new shorts, I visited a shop on Friday that had a good choice but he only wants a certain colour and style, so he can come with me this morning, and choose, if he doesn’t want to get up he will either go without or have to wait.

Take care in the sun and warm weather, remember the sunscreen x

Keep safe and well x

Morning :hello:

The rain got heavier as the day went on yesterday, and the thunder started again at 9am-ish. It was really dark by 9.30am. It carried on til about 4pm then the sun came out and it was instantly muggy. I pottered about the house, tidying, watering plants, etc. It was a bit of a boring day but everything's neat and tidy now.

I've treated my feet, they're lovely and soft and I have silver toenails :D I've cut a few inches off my hair, my head feels lighter, lol. I've decided it now needs thinning, I have some thinning scissors so will do that this morning.

It's cooler today and more importantly, it's not raining :D I'll put the washing out in a mo then when I'm dressed, have a wander round the garden, tidying as I go. I have a list of bigger jobs but they can wait til tomorrow.

My new lettuce seeds have sprung to life, there's tiny green bits poking up through the compost :D I don't want to plant them in the ground because they always get eaten and there's no room the greenhouses. I'll transplant them into pots when they're big enough.

The food festival is on at the docks, mr tru wants to go today but I'm not interested really. Miss tru seems interested so they might have a wander down later.

Morning nmlc the caravan sounds like a bargain :T

tru . I did my feet yesterday too , I have pale blue nails :D

Didn't sleep well last night , I just didn't feel tired and was up till 3 :o slept on the sofa so as not to disturb DH and woke at 7 so think I'm going to be grumpy later

Off to a family birthday this afternoon, won't be staying long as dd2 goes to France tomorrow and will need to pack etc. it's her first holiday with her friends and very :money: as they are staying in her friends grandads apartment for free and got a bargain with flights :j

Need to do a general tidy up and some last minute washing for dd2 , wm is already doing it's thing .

The garden is still wet from yesterday's storm so no watering needed , just some dead heading . I'm hoping the slugs haven't got my tiny lettuces.

Have a good day everyone xx
• Morning everyone, we had a much better night last night as the Lurcha decided he wasn't scared any more and actually went to sleep, and so did we, bliss!!!

Cooler here this morning and overcast which is rather nice but predicted to be warm later on. I picked 7lbs of redcurrants from the garden bushes last night and I've cooked them this morning and they are dripping through the jelly bag for me to make redcurrant jelly later on today. He Who Knows is out with the boy, I'm going to get the housework out of the way before it gets too warm and then hopefully we'll have a nice lazy afternoon and maybe sit in the garden and read our books, lovely.

Hope everyone is well and happy, Lyn xxx.
• Morning all,

Yes we had a quieter night as well, thank goodness. Still muggy this morning and hope to put some washing out in a while.

Off to Costco this morning to stock up on a few things, we only go about every 6 to 8 weeks. Otherwise hopefully a quiet day for a change.

Meanmarie, I hope you are OK, sending hugs.

Have a good day everyone

Mornin' all :hello: - got windows wide open here this morning, it's lovely and cool just now and no rain forecast for us all day. Temps promised to rise to 21C by 4.00pm this afternoon. Still no signs of any thunder storms so looks like we may have escaped them - for now ;).

Hope the day finds you all well and full of beans - but if you're not quite bouncing with joy, here's some HSgentletranscrop.png for you.

nmlc - well done on your goodscales.gif and good luck on finding a bit more 'wriggle room' (love that phrase!) before your holidays.

DS1 didn't need to stay overnight after all - he got a message to say that the 'amazonian hoardes who were threatening to rape/pillage their way through his street' all went on their 'merry-way-home' by 11.30pm - so a 'refuge from their unwanted attentions' was no longer required. He did consume some of his mumsy's Hot Chocolate and Hot Buttered Toast before he left ;). I am wondering though, if my tv remote control has found its way into his bag; it was last seen in his sticky mitt and, since he left, I've been unable to find it th_footstompingsmilie.gif.

Plans for today include:
• Visit to Hospital to see Mum from 3.00 - 4.00. Need to make a packed lunch to take with me.
• Salad for today's evening meal - hb eggs already done; couscous done.
• Going to try to fit in a bit of scone baking before I go out - not done any for ages and it'll be a 'bit of a test' for my dodgy oven.
• Will go straight to DD's after the hospital to collect dgd2 (age6) for an overnighter. This child is an absolutely delightful poppet and a joy to have stay over .......... :A - not sure what we're going to do tomorrow, but it could just involve a visit to DS2's house to look after dgs2 (age5) as well .

Going to light the oven and get ready for scone-making now - then have a shower and get ready to go out later.

Have a good day all - hope there's lots of OS-ing to be done.

cheers - Lilyplonk xx

Good morning everyone
The resident pigeons are in full hooting mode outside//on near by roof tops.

Gardening a little every day. Yesterday did the usual dead heading of flowers. Started to cut a bush back now it has finished flowering, will do the rest today.
Picked the first tomatoes from our greenhouse.
Picked some pea's.
I see the runner beans have some blackfly. Any advice?
I thought I would spray them with washing up liquid and water today.

Got out and walked the labrador dog - Queen bee yesterday morning. She will insist a swim in the river.
Played throw the toy in the garden.
The dog is destructive. Digs holes in the lawn. Chewed up my travel alarm clock. Jumps on the sofa to look out of the widow.
If it was my choice we would not have a dog.

A few doors away, last night people were sending Chinese lanterns into the
black sky. One came down in our garden.
Not to chuffed. I was telling the neighbor if one landed on the conservatory plastic roof the heat/ flame could cause a lot of damage.

Time to get dressed and have breakfast on the patio. I love summer days.

To do = gardening/cleaning/ crafting/ surveys/reading/ cooking.

we have to make the most of what we have the OS way. No spending, just use what we can around the house.
We got out several fans yesterday to push the air around indoors during the heat waves.

Best wishes and drink your water.

After breakfast i did go around the beans with an old spray cleaning bottle (knew I was keeping one for some reason) Good dose of fairy and water.
I sprayed the sweet pea's and roses as well.
Have spent some time cutting back = shrubs and brambles.
Will do a bit more on the path @ side of house.
Oh said yeaterday - good work and I replied it is called garden TLC.
I think more people will be turn to there gardens as the money belt tightens. Going out to the costly attractions is becoming more of a luxury

Next week the fair is coming to our town, i saw a poster wile walking the dog.
All rides 1.50 and bumper cars 2 pounds.
Families with several kids could spend a fortune there.

I always find something to do....
Blinked up a photo we were given of a young girl. Frame, pink card background and teddy cut out from an old card. Stickers. Looks very girly now.

Danced with dyson up stairs. Bathroom, landing and bedroom. I pulled out the bed to get rid of the dust bunnies. Dusted round.

Dinner tonight burgers in rolls and chips.

Have some ironing to do.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

Morning everyone.

Well the rain settled in for the day yesterday and by about three pm it was just streaming. No storm just rain, and then mist fell. Warm and wet and not at all pleasant. I only went out to take even more piles of cardboard to the recycling centre, gradually clearing the barn out of sll the garbage left after the house refurb. Now need the space for my car.

I'm not doing too well with the picture hanging process. Can't make up my mind where each should go. Think I'll wait until the final piece of furniture, a fitted wardrobe, is installed. Maybe I'm just being lazy?

Food fir today sorted, a simple salad will do. Last night I had a longing for chicken keivs which turned out to be so bland, no garlic in them at all.

Garden is well soaked. I had another wander round before bed last night, discovered the outbuilding light still on (my fault), removed from dead roses, snapped off some dead wood and stood under the shelter of the big old spruce for a while. No rain got through the branches.

Ditched the crime novels for Ruby Wax's book 'Sane old world'. She's done a Masters degree at Cambridge about Mindfulness and written this non-fiction book about her own experiences have been. Most interesting.

Our bellowing bulls are gone so the nights are peaceful again.

Hope everyone is well or getting better. Storms will pass and the sun will come back out again.

Happy Sunday.
• Good morning everyone :)

Still hot here and the sun is out again so the washing machine is on. We had lots of rain yesterday but no storm. I must confess to being disappointed, I do like thunder and lightning!

I have been saving £2 coins since the new year, this was inspired by sistercas's Christmas fund and I am delighted to say we are up to £262 already. One money box is almost full so we will seal that and start a new one for the rest of the year.

Am thinking ambitious at the moment and want to have our debt completely paid off by May next year and go for a family holiday next Summer. I think this will motivate us to be good and pay off as much as we can, though am being hampered at the moment by chiropractor and vet costs. Hopefully vets is finished now and am counting days until DD's MRI scan.

Has anyone heard from meanmarie since her hospital appointment? Hugs if you are reading this x

jlhmd666 - sorry you are feeling so down and hope things get better soon. My DH is very onboard with what we do but my DD and GDD waste money like they have it to burn, so you are not alone in your problems x

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day.

Morning all,

Still hot and sticky here, but it's not raining just overcast. We had a mini storm at tea time last night.
Just put two pieces of pork in the over for lunch. I will make roast potatoes and veg to with it. My middle son and his gf will be here at 1 and I always enjoy there company. They have some lovely news which I am hoping to share with you tomorrow:D
Our broad beans are ready for harvesting. Last year made a delicious potato, bacon and broadbean soup so I shall make that again. Lots will be picked and go straight in the freezer.
Hubby and I ate the last of the strawberries last night, yum they were so sweet they tasted like toffees. I've not had nicer anywhere but then I may be biased.
I'm reading a good book at the moment called East of the Sun, about 3 women who travel to India in the 1920's, not my usual read and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
My son in Australia messages his dad constantly whilst the British Open is on as they are both golf nuts. I can't wait to see him in November.
Our youngest worked last night and tonight. He must have took to heart what I said about us trying to save and earning his own money as he has picked up two more shifts next weekend which is good. No way are we keeping him in beer money.
Anyway enough waffle, have a lovely Sunday whatever your up to x
