How long is a piece of string

Buying a new build Wimpey house (been through all that so don't go there) it's a three bedroom detached house brought off plot.
Does anyone have any experience of how long it takes to build? Or the periods of time for the various stages they get to? Tricky question I know.
The current state of my house is that it seems complete as far as building goes. The house has been decorated, the kitchen is fitted, the garden has had it's topsoil put in ready for turfing, patio laid, windows and doors recently got sealed around the edges, garage complete. Still waiting for wall to garden, but fences between us and neighbours are up.
We have ordered carpet etc on the upper floor.
Now it appears to me a non builder type person, that the house must be virtually finished, and therefore can't be long before we are able to move in.
However sales person (don't get me started, should be called sales then don't get a stuff after we have hooked you person) said this morning it's likely to be end of September. It started off as scheduled for the beginning of September.
I am (almost obsessively) organised and this lack of ability to plan ahead is causing me more stress than anything else. Perhaps I need to drink more?

Some people are like a slinky. Not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

If I were you I would bypass the sales person, get in touch with your solicitors and ask them to ask the solicitors acting for the builder to find out when it will be ready and push it that way. Good luck0

A piece of string is 16.24 metres long. After perusing the question for many weeks I measured it.david89999 wrote: »Buying a new build Wimpey house (been through all that so don't go there) it's a three bedroom detached house brought off plot.
Where is it now?

cant help with the house building thing, but the answer to the question about he length of a piece of string is:
twice half its length!0 -
Thanks for the "helpful" replies, I checked the length and found that in actual fact it's not as long as Wimpey say it is. So whatever they say I probably shouldn't believe it! (They advertised the rooms as different dimensions to what they actually will be)
Now if there is anyone why who can answer the question in the post I am looking forward to hearing from you! Some people are like a slinky. Not much use for anything, but they bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.0 -

We recntly bought a house from a developer like yourself. Traditional build started October 2006 and we moved in March 2007 although we got the keys in February.
Not sure about your delay - could be for a number of reasons such as street lights or sewers not yet finished . Perhaps services not connected but as Krispy advises only way to find out is via your solicitor. Get them to chase up an answer for you .
Good luckI`m now officially too old to die young0 -
My guess is that they will not start the next phase of building until sufficient houses have been sold off plan. Therefore, the answer to your question may be 'How long is a piece of string?'. They won't want to spend £££s only for lots of completed homes to remain empty.
Hassle them for a firm date and if one is not forthcoming, seek legal advice.
