Locating bank accounts and investments

I have just gained a power of attorney for a relative who now has dementia. Unfortunately they are unable to remember where they have bank / savings accounts and investments. While I have located some old information by going through papers at their home - I can see there have been investments made in the past which have now matured but I have no idea where the funds have been reinvested.

I would appreciate any advice on the best way to find where this relative holds bank and savings accounts, and investments - or is the only way to try every bank and building society?
