Advice needed on EDF error
Some years back I accrued a debt with EDF. This debt came about because they had wrongly billed me. I was paying the bills they sent, but suddenly I got a massive bill of over 500 pounds. When I queried this, I found I was being wrongly billed for some time. The massive bill was the difference between what I'd actually paid and what I should have paid. I requested a pre paymeny meter to pay this debt off as I just didn't have the money to pay it. I then moved. I have been in this property for over two years now, and I assumed my debt would have been paid by now, so I tried to change supplier. This was declined so I contacted EDF to find out why. It transpires that my debt was never transferred to my new property, so I still owe hundreds. It also transpires that the standing charge on my meter was never updated when their prices increased, and also I recently discovered that the meter in my new house is not at the correct time, neither was the meter in my previous house, This one is 45 minutes out, the previous house was 2 hours out. On economy 7 this makes a difference to me. I know the previous meter is out because I only moved next door (I house exchanged with my neighbours). Now I was pretty bitter at having a debt to start with, that I didn't cause, but to now find out all this is just adding insult to injury. I have made a complaint to EDF, but what can I reasonably expect them to do about this mess, and what do I do next? I don't feel I should be held responsible for their errors.

What do you want to happen? If they don't resolve the complaint to your satisfaction within 56 days, you can take it to the ombudsman who can decide.0 -
You did cause the original debt.Estimated monthly payments are just that, an educated guess. Its up to you to monitor your actual usage.Accepting a nice low monthly payment is no excuse.
with eco 7 meters it will be to your advantage if the clock, either analogue or digital, is not at the correct time as it moves the cheap rate into a more usable time than the dead of night. The suppliers cannot have any control over the accuracy of timers. The 7 cheap hours are never guaranteed to be in a certain position. I often see the 7 cheap hours in the late afternoon on the old analogue timers0
