    Estate agency fees 1.5% plus vat. Solicitors fees for sale and onwards purchase. 3% stamp duty paid on onwards. Quite easily possible. No doubt other costs needing to be factored in.

    If the OP & OH bought the house together why is it that the ex is not getting £215k , half of the home valued at £430k. I fail to see why he would accept £125k unless he has shed loads of money and can afford to take the hit. It's all very well that he can buy another home but I'd rather buy one worth £215k than £125. I feel I'm missing something somewhere ? Have I mis-read ?


    Is the low offer because he did not contribute to the upkeep of the house ?

    All comes out of the purchase price before the equity is split (if the OP has any sense) so not a direct cost to the OP

    It is not a low offer. Ex needs to pay off his share of the 180k joint mortgage from the £215k share, hence £125k equity buy-out.

    There is a £180k mortgage on the house.

    There is one other person who will judge you Daisy and that person seems to have been uppermost in the minds of several who have commented in this thread.

    I sincerely hope you can resolve your circumstances amicably and that all 3 adults involved remember who is the most exposed at the time of parental disagreement.
