esa rules

Does anyone know how savings are affected if you get both IR ESA AND Contribution based combined. I know if you are on CB esa and in support group you are not means tested and are means tested if getting IR esa but what happens if you get both?

The means tested/ IR element will be affected by any savings over £6,000. If your have £16,000 you will no longer receive the means tested element but will keep the CB award.

THANKS so much have been trying to clarify this info for ages.

Just wondering if you know whether you can still get help with dental, eye tests etc if you are getting the both parts means and non means tested ?

If you are getting both parts then yes, you will be entitled to help with healthcare costs.

You need to show your award letter/update to each pharmacy/dentist/optician that you use, quote the NI no on med scripts & tick box H. They do not check everyone, but they do audits of a random selection.

Strictly speaking you cannot get both parts.

Either both elements have the same value £72.40 for example, in which case you are on ESA Conts and you do not have the right to free dental etc. You need an HC1.

Or ESA C value is below the ESA IR value eg £108 & £123.65
In which case you are on ESA IR and you are allowed to get free dental etc.

Or ESA C value is above the ESA IR value eg £108 & £83
In which case you are on ESA Conts and are not allowed free dental etc. You can try an HC1 but probably wil not succeed.

If you have both elements calculated and ESA DWP has told you this on the phone, then if your savings go up you should inform DWP and the savings will only affect the ESA IR value. If it is affected enough, it will cause ESA IR to drop below the ESA C value and your claim will then change into ESA Conts.
