It's a formal procedure that doesn't require any justification. HSBC don't care why you want to do this....Tell HSBC, in a written letter, that you are doing this because you are not comfortable with the spending practices of the other account user and wish to eliminate your liability for any use of or borrowing on the account. ....0 -

I suggested that route because I wanted the notice to include concern over spending to encourage them to restrict the availability of credit on the account.It's a formal procedure that doesn't require any justification. HSBC don't care why you want to do this.
The next step in the evolution of this could be the spouse running up a large overdraft to the extent supported by joint credit affordability rather than solely that of the single person.0 -
i agree, divorce the sponger right away.
I give my wife weekly housekeeping and ask for receipts for all of her spending. Only way to keep them under control.0 -

Separating the accounts may be the best option if you want

It's worth remembering that some people can't be treated as an equal effectively because they will just spend whatever they get access to. Trying to limit the spending can beat going for divorce instead.0
