Flowers for late september
                    Hi all
Im getting married in late september and id really like the garden to look exceptionally pretty, ive alwyas got the usual a gew pots and hanging baskets but my beloved hollyhocks will be over by then and the pots will look tired so is there anything I can buy and plant that will be in flower then. Thanks so much ive had a quick search but would rather have gardeners opinions than what the seed catalogues say. Thank you

I've just popped a dahlia into a container to extend the flowering period, that might work for you and you should be able to find some bedding-type dahlias for sale still.0

Chrysanthemums should be in flower then or even just brightly coloured pansies.0

The season is 3 weeks ahead this year, so late Sep may be tricky for pots/plants in the ground.
However, you could do pots now with fushsia or cannas or dahlias as the centre piece with begonias or cosmos or coleus to fill in or use the grasses Panicum or Miscanthus
You may find Nerine bowdenii in flower in the shops.
Late flowering garden plants, I's say Aster x frikartii 'Monch' and Anemone x hybrida 'Honorine Jobert' are the final flourish in the borders0

Thank you all for your help, some food for thought there. If i start cosmos off from seed now will they flower for late september? I know i have cosmos purity seeds, I have a weakness for white flowers. Thanks again :-)0

Doubt it. You'll need to buy stuff that's coming into bud now to get the flowers then0

There's a pretty container plant that comes in white, yellow and sometimes pink, flower small, very like chamomile, greyish leaves, think it's a type of chrysant but I can't remember the name. Anyone? If you keep dead-heading it, should be fine for September.0

Argyranthemum? Mine flower for a very long time although you need lots of patience when deadheading! There's a pretty container plant that comes in white, yellow and sometimes pink, flower small, very like chamomile, greyish leaves, think it's a type of chrysant but I can't remember the name. Marigolds, fuchsias, pelargoniums and geraniums should all still be flowering in September. Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician.... 0 0
