Using Samsung mobile phone as modem

I have a Samsung E700 mobile phone and a Sony Vaio laptop computer and use AOL (dial up).
Soon I am going away for a month and really can't bear to not have access to the internet (especially my daily fix on this site
). I really need to know how to fix up my mobile phone so that I can use to access the internet via my laptop and I have bought the necessary cable to set it up. Trouble is, I don't understand what to do (sorry, I'm really thick when it comes to technical stuff
. I did manage to install the software but didn't get it to work.
Can any clever person out there help please? (Preferably in very simple language!). Or is there an easier way to access the internet from my friend's house on my laptop without charging anything to their 'phone company?
Many thanks in advance.

What set up has your friend got? Have they got dial up or broadband connection? Have they got a wireless set up?
At what stage did the software not work?Torgwen..........

Hi Fran
Thanks for your reply.
My friend had 2 Mac computers which are networked and they are on Broadband.
I couldn't get my software to work because I couldn't workout the right access number to put in. At least I think that's why I couldn't get it to work

As I understand it then, you could perhaps join their network - you would need a cable and I don't know which one, or if they have a wireless network you would need a wireless card. As they are on broadband, unless they are on a restricted package and you cause it to go above the limit (unlikely if you are just browsing) then it won't cost them any extra.jaybee wrote:Hi Fran
