  • The worst job I had was in a contact centre for customer complaints. The boss was a narky spinster who looked like a man in a dress and had zero people skills..we all hated her. The customers where all angry and shouted at you as they were upset with the company...it was hell.

The best job I had was being a stay at home mum to the children when they were really young..that was the best job in the world.

Worst by a country mile was Sports Direct, zero professionalism, unsociable, long hours, "zero hour contract" in name only, constant degredation & the most abusive environment you can imagine. I hung around there just over 4 weeks and when the "assistant manager" phoned me up to say I was working when I'd told the "manager" that I had a funeral that day that was the final straw. 4 weeks - understandably that's not one I put on the CV!

Best, probably the two years I spent at Gamestation, good fun, good people I was working with and I kinda stuffed it up by going someplace else where I thought the grass was greener.

Worst job: working for the job centre - !!!!!! pay and getting abuse from people getting more in benefits than I was earning.

Best job: current one contracting for a government organisation. Disabled friendly, doing what I enjoy, earning almost £500 per day and been here almost a year, with enough work for another couple of years if I play my cards right.

    I've been Money Tipped!
my best job was in an office - this sounds dull but we had great fun bating the nasty boss we had. We introduced yellow/spotted/striped clothes days and everyone dressed the same. He was totally confused and asked someone why - they just said O'h I hadn't noticed! We also kept moving things around so he could never find anything - he had lots of time off!

One day it snowed and the force of the snow on his car window caused it to smash and it was filling with snow. nobody told him and it was almost full by the time he noticed!

Pretty soon he got the message and asked for a transfer! then it got a bit boring!

my worst delivering telephone books a total waste of lots of energy and little cash!

Worst - cold calling as a student

Best - my current job, the first one that doesn't involve any contact with the general public!

Best job - working in a chippy. It was great fun because I worked with my best friend and my now husband.

Worst job - working in a grocery shop, could hardly breathe without their permission, early Sunday mornings so couldnt go out Saturday. Were told to be there 15mins early to check your till (unpaid). Any till mistakes had to be changed by the manager. Hated it.

What does a contractor do? Is it building? Takes me nearly 3 weeks to earn £500 lol.

    Thread question:
I can't think of any 'best' jobs as I have really disliked them all.

But worst job was probably a job I had through a temping agency at a marketing firm who really didn't seem to need me at all and I felt completely 'in the way' of the staff members.
They didn't really train me at all, and It was so draining, having no idea what I was meant to be doing and pretending to look busy for 9 hours per day.
The staff all seemed kind of conceited, too.
I remember feeling sick each morning at the thought of another day.
I just walked out one lunch break and didn't return!

PS- Great thread idea. Hope I get some ideas for my endless job search! :)

Best - worrying nights in a call centre that no one ever rang. Apart from the odd engineer popping in I worked alone, had access to every tv channel you could imagine, and generally did cross stitch all night ;)

Worst - a back office role for Natwest. The boss was useless and spent more time trying to catch people out than working - but got his karma when his car was stolen on my last day (not by me!). We also had a resident groper, he'd take any opportunity to rub up against you. Not so long ago but it was seen as amusing by the management, 'Keith and his wandering hands' :(

Work was putting pasta on ready meals, you had seconds and by the end of the night your hands looked like you had spent hours in the bath.

Best, working as a full time vehicle mechanic.
