Just wondering if anyone can give me any tips/advice on getting 8 month old ds2 asleep for the night,
Ok well where do i start, From the beginning i hear you all say
Anyway the problem is with ds2, he is 8 months old and on his food etc and still on 2/3 bottles a day, he will have about 2 sleeps during the day but just wont settle at night, but during the day he will go asleep no problem regardless of noises, i am saying regardless of noise because at night he is like an owl he just wont sleep and any noise at all he is awake, i am talking the slightest noise of a keyboard, i dont know if its anything to do with his food etc etc but he will go asleep about 7 then he will get up after about an hour then just cry, thing is he is really tired and grumpy and wants to sleep but just wont. It is hard work and i am getting to the point of dreading night time.
I honestly dont know what to do with him, i do his nappy give him a bottle make sure he is clean i just cant seem to work out what to do, i leave him to cry he just gets worse and sweats and gets himself more worked up, which means more hours awake, he will go asleep for the night around half 10/11 and alot of the time that is for the night, i know that its good for him to sleep through the night but its the crying he does from around 8ish till he goes asleep that gets me . I also have another son who is 3 so he wakes up from the noise as well.
Anyway if anyone has had the same problem as me and sorted it out then i would be very grateful to hear from you, or anyone going through it so i know im not alone
Thanks in advance

Wanted to send you some support I am sure someone will be along soon to give some proper advice my DS2 is 18weeks old so a fair bit younger than yours.
But his routine is something like this he has a couple of naps through the day and come 9pm he is knackered if I put him in his room to sleep he screams the place down he will however quite happily have a nap in his moses basket in the lounge then wake at 11.30pm have his last bottle then off to bed.
Is it dark in his room ? Maybe a bed time routine would help i.e bath, story cuddle, bottle then bed. I was told try not to stimulate them i.e dont talk to them as you would through the day and when you do keep your voice calm and soothing it may help abit or you may already do all of the above.
Hope you get it sorted soon

HI,
I totally understand, my son is 2 and still isnt the perfect sleeper although he is very good at going to bed but not so good at staying asleep all night
Maybe try only one nap in the day for a day or 2 and see how he copes, if he obviously needs more sleep then cut the nap time down a bit.
Good luck0 -
Thanks for your quick replies, it is dark in his room which he seems to like, i have also tried leaving the door ajar with the landing light on for him, to no use!! He has about 2 naps during the day but for no longer than 20 minutes each time, he is a very light sleeper and doesnt sleep for long periods of time, i dont know if he has colic or if it is that he is overtired come bedtime
but he will lie in his cot and just laugh at me! I dont talk to him when he is in bed, the routine we do is bath, bottle, cuddles and playing, then bed about 8ish, he will go alseep no problem at 8, but come 9 he is wide awake, thinking he has been asleep all night
I honestly dont know what to try with him!
I can honestly say i have done everything i can think of!!
Thanks again
Nats

have you read the baby whisperer?
it helped me massively with my little girl and after trying out the suggestions she slept through and now sleeps from 5pm to 8 the next morning. its worth a try

I was reading an article by an anthropologist the other day who claimed that it wasn't natural for children to sleep through for the first few years and that they SHOULD wake up for feeds and we would all be happier if we just accepted that and got on with it.
I'm guessing she's never been through it as it is torture!
Been there, got the Tshirt and I really sympathise. A routine at bedtime helps, songs, bath etc. Blocking out the light helped with DS1 but DS2 likes the fairy lights on. I didn't stop feeding DS1 through the night till he was 18 months and it was a killer so I obviously don't hvae the answers but wish you luck with the baby whisperer technique. It seems quite kind on both baby and parents so definitely worth a shot!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Hi
We had fairly major sleep problems with DD (when she was a bit older than that though.) What we found really helped in the end was having a cd player in her room and when she woke up we'd put it on and play classical music (kindly donated by granny:p) to her which seemed to chill her out!
Hope you get it sorted soon!0 -
Oh it's awful when they won't sleep isn't it?! DD was a nightmare right up until DS arrived 2yrs and 4 weeks later. The only way we could get any sleep was to put her in our bed. She would sleep in the car but obviously the driver couldn't although we considered driving around for a bit and coming back to park on the driveway and sleeping in the car!
We had a downstairs neighbour who used to come and hammer on our door every time she cried at night which was frightening and made it even more stressfull for us.
DS slept in the room with her and was a dream from about 9 weeks.
Is there any possibility of sharing a room with DS1? If not then just do the same routine with both DS's and have them in the room together. If DS2 isn't due for bed after story time take him out afterwards and just sit him quietly with you until it's bottle time and bed.
Does he sleep in his cot during the day? It may be an idea to stop that and sleep him downstairs on the lounge floor quietly so that he learns that the cot is for the whole night.

Awful is an understatement
Anyway DS1 is in his room and DS2 or maybe chucky
is in our room in his cot, I hadn't thought of putting him in with DS1 just yet but might just give it a try, He doesn't sleep in his cot during the day i lie him in his pram to go asleep, but tonight he had a bottle at 9 and went asleep in his pram, took him up to his cot at 10 and he hasnt woken up since :T :T :T
So well chuffed at that, the night has gone dead quick, been able to do everything :j
If only he was like this every night
Anyway i changed his teats on the bottle i am using to a faster flow as someone recommended this, and strangely enough tonight is the night he has slept all this time :j :j :j
Thanks everyone, will keep you posted
