My Canon G12 camera seems to be permanently stuck in tracking mode (AF). I want to turn it off but the user guide only tells you how to turn it on. Can anyone help?

Don't you simply do the same to turn it off?

Can't access that part of the menu anymore, it is greyed out.0

Right.
I have the older G9 and the menu system used to puzzle me for some things.
What I discovered was that if a menu item was greyed out it usually meant that it was linked to something else and that if you enabled/disabled the something else the menu item is then accessible.
An example would be that you can't turn the focus assist beam on if auto focus is turned off. Turn auto focus on and then you can turn the assist beam on and off. I have no idea if this example is a good one, I made it up to make the point. :0)
Of course the manual doesn't always explain what is dependent on what. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
Another thing occurs to me. What mode are you in?
If you're in Auto mode then AF Tracking is automatically enabled and can't be turned off.
If you want to turn it off you have to select one of the manual modes and set it up as you like it. You can then save these settings to one of the custom slots. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
