I'm defective

Opened a new account and have feedback of 250. Sold a £1.99 item and had a case opened for INR. It was sold on 10th July and posted 2nd class on 11th July. Message in the case read "not received yet. Just checking the address it was sent to"
I don't think the buyer has any idea that they have opened a case, but I have contacted them and explained the damage it could do. I have immediately refunded and apologised, but according to eBay I am 'defective'
I am going on holiday tomorrow, so this is a nice start, but when i get back am really going to have to look at selling elsewhere

It's so unfair the way the page is set up when a buyer wants to send you an enquiry/message about their item.
As you state I think the majority of buyers dont even know they are opening a case !!!
It needs to be set out more clearly for them.
Its so annoying when you have done nothing wrong and still get penalised .... for what ??
Hope you have a nice holiday and forget about this until you get back.Looking forward to the day I have nothing left to list on eBay0 -
The only way to win a INR is to have tracking & escalate once delivered, which will close the case in your favour & remove the defect.
If you have sent untracked, send another one with tracking [Parcel2Go have a Free Parcel offer], upload the tracking & escalate to CS once delivered.0 -

It's ridiculous. I accidentally did this once as I figured the "Item Not As Described" was simply the subject line, as it has been for years when sending a message.
Now when sending a message, I can only click "Details About Item" otherwise I'm worried it will make a case. Ridiculous eBay again0 -

Over reacting ? I am guessing you are an ebay buyer or a small private seller as you obviously dont understand the new ebay defect rule and how it works
I am assessed every 12 months, so another 7 innocent questions could see my account in trouble and if that happens it could affect my other two accounts with a total of over 10,000 feedback. Actually, this account was set to become top rated, so it may be as low as another 4 questions in 12 months
I am lucky that I don't make a living off eBay, but like many other sellers, am finding it difficult to sell on there because of their ridiculous new rules
If you want over reaction, go onto the ebay Powerseller board and have a read. Some sellers have dropped from top rated to below Standard because they were encouraged by ebay to get buyers to open INR cases and now those cases are being counted against then
Most business sellers are actively looking for somewhere else to sell. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

And that's eBay's rules. Can't moan at the buyers for it.
Buyers get far too much flack on here. Plus there's always EBID :-)Always open a case if your unhappy with a transaction :money:0 -

I don't think you appreciate how much the new defect rate is going to hit sellers. My own thriving business is at the mercy of my private account- which has just today fallen to standard rather than above standard.
It worries me that there doesn't seem to be an appreciation by some buyers that the stars and cases opened could make the difference to sellers in such a big way- my latest 3* for item description was left by a buyer (they are no longer anonymous) who left perfect feedback for me with no complaint mentioned at all.
I am so close to risking my accounts by emailing this buyer and asking whether she realises that her 3* feedback in one category could lose me my account- I would love her to know that her stars are no longer anonymous (don't panic regulars, I know the rules and won't contact her- but I am so blasted tempted)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I do get that. But as must buyers are classed as 'thick' etc on here. Then do you really think 90% of buyers know about defects?
It's eBay who encourage buyers to open cases. It's not the buyers fault how eBay decide to run there business. Same with the stars.
And if stars aren't anonymous, that just means buyers will leave 'really honest' feedback, ie, Neg/Neu. When Before you still would of got a Positive.Always open a case if your unhappy with a transaction :money:0 -

A neg or a neutral is still only 1 defect so no longer makes any real difference- except it might flag up to other sellers that they have a buyer who is a bit quick with poor feedback.
I don't think that buyers are generally dim, I have several hundred a month that are lovely - personally I am slightly more inclined to think they are malicious and perhaps do know what they are doing. It just strikes me as odd that the latest couple of defects I have had across my accounts have been from other sellers whose accounts are not in a good state.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You seem one of the nicer forum members, who aren't quick to judge and mock others.
But I just find buyers get a fair whack of abuse on here. If we aren't thick, were trying to ruin accounts. Were not allowed to leave nothing but 5* and if we dare complain, well then we should be banned and mocked and have stones throw at us. Oh and of course, were all scammers. Pretty much how it comes across on here.
Defects are eBay's rules. If a buyer isn't fully happy. Then it's not really there fault how eBay decide what stars are good or bad. Yes there's obviously some malicious buyers. But there's also pretty bad sellers.
Buyers are still your bread and butter, so sellers coming on here abusing them. Well then, they don't really deserve to have buyers.
There are amazing sellers, some are really lovely. But me as a buyer and a seller. I have noticed the standard has gone down a hell of a lot. So my feedback will reflect this!Always open a case if your unhappy with a transaction :money:0
