CCJ's

Options
Hello

I understand that CCJ's fall off your credit report after 6 years. However I came across Trust Online where you can search yourself for CCJ's. Do CCJ's show here until they are paid off regardless of duration?

I have checked my credit file with Experian and Equifax, would it be worth checking this too?

Thanks

Phil

Yes, they do come off your credit report after 6 years but I believe they still remain accessible from the court if a lender requests them - this website seems an alternative way of displaying the info having had a quick look at it.

Also you may be asked as part of an application for a financial product "Have you ever had a CCJ?". Obviously the applicant needs to reply honestly to this even if they have fallen off the credit files, thus certainly ruling themselves out of being successful for the product.

No, CCJs MUST be removed from the register 6 years from the judgement date.

So as my previous CCJs have gone from my credit file (still got to check CallCredit), they also should be gone from Trust Online?

Yes, assuming that the reason they no longer show on your credit reports is because the judgements were more than 6 years ago.
(the alternative would be that they are less than 6 years old but related to a past address that wasn't being linked to the credit report you were looking at)

Credit reference agencies obtain information on CCJs from the registry trust (who in turn obtain it from the courts).

So that website is only really good for viewing "live" CCJs and hot historical ones?

it shows CCJs within the last 6 years whether paid or not (except if paid within a month, in which case they won't show).

The website is useful to check if someone else has CCJs. Or could be useful to check yourself anonymously (e.g. if you don't want to request a credit report and alert creditors/debt collectors of your current address).
