13 years off work - that would be great!

You're obviously living under a stone. What an awful thing to say! Seriously why would say that to someone who is just asking for some advice? I would love to see how you would have coped under the almost strain I've been under for years and years.

This isn't possible as the two schools I am placed with are rural and bus routes are scanty.

Could the uni help you find somewhere more local / somewhere you can get to that doesn't need a car?

This is worth investigating - my uni changed my second placement when I explained to them how awkward it would be for me to get there (two trains, 1.5 hours each way).

walnut77, I just wanted to wish you success in your course.

As a carer myself - on top of also getting cancer myself 5 years ago- I know and understand how hard it is to be sole carer and raise children . It is no picnic- no days off or holidays like other 'jobs' ,far less than minimum wage and in my ( and many other carer's situation ) months without a night of unbroken sleep.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to support your family and pursue a career you have obviously wanted for years . I wish you joy in it.

But are the people who arranged the placement aware of your circumstances ? You need to consult them.

Has your husband notified the DWP of the improvement in his condition?

You seem to have missed this earlier - you are aware that your husband must notify the DWP of any change in his condition?

Good luck with your studies! you can certainly ask about changing placements but be aware that some universities can be remarkably unhelpful and will almost appear to go out of their way to hand out the most inconvenient placements to students.

There was one unpleasant reply on this thread, which hardly justifies the OP being so upset, much less the rant from the new(?) poster above.

In addition, the OP hasn't answered one important question that could make a lot of difference to some of the financial information given.
