Hi all,
I've been using MSE for a good few years now and find it brilliant for recommendations across all sorts of things.
I went through MSE and then Moneysavingsupermarket and chose their recommended worldwide travel insurance through 24/7 Gap Travel. One of the key reasons we bought this insurance was for the £2,500 personal possessions cover it provided.
Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant experience where we had all of our expensive items stolen from our bedroom - an ipad, dSLR camera, mobile phones, etc.
We went through the motions reporting it to police and obtaining the documentation thinking at least we could replace the items but 24/7 have only paid £250 stating that this corresponds with their valuable limit.
Has anyone else had this issue where the insurance company claim that basically any electrical item is a 'valuable' item so they only pay £250 in total rather than the £2,500 payable for personal possessions?
Very unhappy with 24/7 Gap Travel and their policies.
Many thanks for any help or advice

Valuables are defined in the policy as:Valuables - means cameras, photographic equipment, camcorders, video, satellite navigation equipment, television equipment, radios, cassette players, CD players, IPods, MP3 players, audio equipment, laptops, mac or web books, personal computers, computer equipment / accessories, hard drives, flash drives, computer games machines, binoculars, telescopes, antiques, jewellery, watches, furs, precious or semi-precious stones, articles made of or containing gold, silver or other precious metals, films, tapes, cassettes, cartridges, discs or Compact Discs.
In fairness to them, most travel insurance gives fairly limited cover for your items and you are normally better off relying on your Home Insurance Personal Possessions/ All Risks section
Whilst it isnt the traditional definition of valuables budget Home policies include the same sorts of things, though some refer to them as high risk rather than valuables.
Travel insurance is predominantly about medical expenses and secondarily about holiday cancellation. The other coverages are pretty token.0 -
Their definition of valuables doesn't include mobile phones so these should have been paid out on top of any valuables limit (unless they exclude mobiles elsewhere)0
