neighborhood safety concern

i did think about doing a new user name and let everyone scream troll because this story is absolutely unbelievable

so here goes lol

my street is a square of houses around a green with alley ways at each corner to get in and out of the street. so on the way home from work a couple of police cars whipped past us and i didnt think anything of it (i live near the M1 and A5 so there is always something going on on the roads) i get to my street walk through the little alley way and see 2 riot vans police everywhere 5 of them trying to wrestle a woman to the ground all the adults who live on the street out there and my husband being seen to by a paramedic. i go straight over to hubby who has cut his hand quite badly after taking a machete off of the woman the police were wrestling with. (see i did tell you it sounds like a troll story) so hubby was interviewed and it turns out all the kids in the street were out having a water fight and one of the kids got the woman wet so she went and smashed the childs house up. kitchen window smashed front door destroyed with said machete. childs parents being threatened.

it sounded like i missed most of the craziness but we still had a line of police in front of the womans house all night (even through the storm poor chaps)

now i know i dont live in the best area but we are normally really high on the community spirit we have big street BBQs and in general the neighbors are nice. nothing like this has happened here before but now i am worrying about letting the kids play out the front especially helpful as it is the first day of the summer holidays!

the family of the woman who was arrested moved out very quickly this morning

thankfully my kids didnt see or hear any of this and have no idea whats gone on but im still concerned

we are in a position to move to another rented property but it would be more expensive (our landlord agreed when we moved in not to increase the rent until we move out so we pay less that average :) and the deposit and moving costs would put a dent in our savings for a mortgage - so the options are hold out for around 4 more years to buy our own place or move make it longer until we can buy but possibly have less concerns about where my babies are

WWYD? move? stay?

(and yes i have shouted at husband for being an idiot and grabbing a machete!)

If it's very rare and the woman and her family have moved I'd stay.

It sounds like you live in a nice area normally and chances of machete lady being replaced by another machete person have to be slim.

Do you know if she rents?

Blimey, the only excitement I have ever found in Milton Keynes is to try and fathom out the mad street names and roundabouts.....:rotfl:

What do you want to move for?

Sounds better then the telly lol

    Lin ;)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Presumably, there was just the one woman responsible, and she was arrested. Her family has moved out. So, any possible such danger is gone, really. There's no reason to think anything like it would happen again, since you say yourself the neigbourhood is normally nice. I'd stay put. I understand feeling upset at what happened, especially with your own husband being hurt, but it's probably just the initial shock talking. Maybe organise a few days away, to relax and think about something else.

Have you still got your plastic cows?

I used to attend dog and cat shows at the leisure centre, years ago, and the plastic cows, on the roundabouts, were always a mystery to me lol:eek:

Stay. Even if she comes back she's unlikely to kick off again ... just don't squirt her with water pistols :)

I think you need to wait and see what happens.

What happens if you move and your new neighbours are drug dealers who bring you trouble every single day?

You can't just keep moving and moving.

It sounds like a one off event. Wait and see what happens. If they don't ever come back you would have moved for no reason and you'll have lost all the good things about your street.
