Still in hospital, No sign of him getting any better or coming out any time soon.
I actually feel like he is on the decline. But not sure if the other family members have spotted that also. I dont want to panic them.
My concerns are he is getting weaker and struggling to do basic things. Up until March/April/May? He was going out to the shops, Cooking proper meals etc.
Then a few chest infections knocked him back. He didnt go out at all after the 1st one and we got him microwave meals & easier things to cook. But we could see he struggled with those also.
He cannot put the cup of tea or dinner plate/meal from the kitchen surface into his kitchen tray on wheels safely. Ideally he needs two hands but he wont let go of the frame anymore. Too unsteady.
He needed the dentist to get some new dentures made but because the appointment was at 4pm he wouldnt go.
Been about 4 years since he went to the opticians and wouldnt let us go in with him.
Stuck in hospital now and he is totally fed up. Is it worse than all his marbles are there i wonder? Mind you staring at that ceiling 24/7 may soon erode that.
I know i would hate it.
Thanks for letting me waffle

Sorry to hear that your Dad's still in hospital. Have you managed to talk to the doctors at all?
I'm wondering if he would benefit from some OT input too. They can arrange for him to have a caddy, which is like a little walking trolley so he can put food on and wheel it from one place to the other. Just one way to promote and retain a little independence, which it sounds like he'd appreciate as he's been so independent. Would he consider meals at home at all? Just another thought.
Does he manage with things like getting washed and dressed? And do you know if he's over the savings threshold? It's around £23,500.
Hope he has a better weekend x0 -
Walking caddy sounds like the trolley he has 2 trays and wheeled. But moving the cup or plate from the kitchen top to the trolley is now a shaky affair.
Tried meals on wheels. he hated them. Very little savings.
We know what the problem is. And its aggravated by the antibiotics he is taking. So when he finished those hopefully the bug will be sorted.
But its one infection after another.
They seemed to have arranged the doctors to visit outside the visiting times. So we ask the nurses who relay the information back.
I think we have the info we need.
I spoke to the OT last time they released him and he had a care at home package. But went back in very quickly with another infection.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
When Dad was in hospital for a long time, we were able to make appointments to talk to the doctor-in-charge-of-his-case by phone a couple of times, which was very helpful.forgotmyname wrote: »They seemed to have arranged the doctors to visit outside the visiting times.
