debt collection and something seems iffy

Long time no posting here so sorry in advance.

I have been working abroad for 2 months and got back 2 days ago and received a letter this morning from credit resolution services asking for £148.48 for a debt that should have been cleared 2 months ago.

I had a gym membership and the company managing it is called harlands. I contacted them before I my work contract started and thought that was that. Now the membership was £19.95 per month. I was informed I owed 2 months membership to end the contract early (6 month membership) I gave my card details to the woman the other end of the phone and thought that was that. I have gone through my statements and the payment has not been taken and the bill is now £108 more?????

I have also been going through all my mail that has stacked up and come across some letters from harlands demanding money and here is where it gets a bit iffy.

Harlands and Credit resolution services have the same address and fax number.

speaking to CRS they want a copy of the phone call log to prove I had phoned Harlands but the call was made from an office and speaking to the office they will not release a copy of the calls made that day due to data protection.

Any advice from you people would be appreciated..

Why not ask the office if they will let you have a redacted copy of the telephone log with only the details of the call that you made showing.
This won't then infringe any data protection as the only information on it relates to you and no one else.
