jpeg photos ,how do you compress them?

hi please could some one advise me on how to compress a j peg photo dowmn to approx 50 kb so thst i can transfer it from my laptop via bluetooth to my d500 mobile , i guess i would need a program of some sort to allow me to compress,does any body have any good ideas , many thanks

    I am no expert, but if you right click on the picture and select 'send to' then email recipient' windows should tell you that they will resize it for you, which they do and it's normally about to 40k so a very friendly size to your phone

    Hope this helps, but I'm sure someone else will come up with the perfect answer

    The only way to compress jpegs with a photo editing tools to to resize and or alter the compression ratio. The more you compress anything greater than 15% can be noticeable (artifcats), this is one of the reason why Jpegs wont compress with a compression program like winzip.

    There is a format called jpeg2000 which is better at compression whilst retaining reasonable picture quality, however, in order to view this format you need a photo editing program that supports it, like Jasc Paintshop Pro I think only from version 8 or greater supports it.
