I suppose it depends what the documents are. If they are something vital you may be looking for consequential insurance if they are lost which may be difficult or expensive.

The most reliable carriers like Fedex or UPS may not provide the insurance you need but it is almost certain to get there quickly and safely.

If the consequences of the papers getting lost would be catastrophic - something valuable or irreplaceable or maybe a valuable contract unable to be fulfilled maybe you should take it in person.

As with most things in life the "cheapest" and the "best" are rarely the same thing.

We send documents for business contracts to India regularly with DHL. It's not cheap but the service is very good and we've never had a problem plus you get door to door tracking. I'm sure the Post Office will be cheaper but they will be slower and the traceability will be harder.

I'd use one of the international couriers (DHL, UPS, FedEx) as they will handle the delivery from end to end rather than pass it on to the Indian postal service or a local operator.

You can get a DHL quote from http://www.dhl.co.uk/en/express/shipping/get_rate_time_quote.html#Non_Account_Holders

Do not rely on DHL,UPS.They are fine as long as destination is main city . All of these private companies sell their post to private dealers and no further tracking once it is handed over to private contractors.
Royal mail is still reliable as they hand over the post to India post which is more reliable than DHL .

If your destination is main city like delhi, bangalore then you can save money by searching on gum tree for cheap offers.A lot of ethnic agents charge from 10 pounds with pick up offers from your home.

  • Royal Mail International Tracked is probably best. £6.28 up to 20g.

Not international Signed For though, because that rarely tracks outside the UK, despite being the same price.

Royal Mail say 5-7 working days, and that seems to have been fairly accurate to me.
