Van Hire Bus lane Fines
Hi all,
Now first off I am guilty, I accidentally drove in a bus lane when I last hired a van, of that there is no doubt. Now the problem is that the hire company (city car club) have now passed the penalty notice onto me nearly 4 weeks after they received it.
The notice states that if you pay within 14 day the fine is halved which I would have been happy to do. This time has now lapsed by over a week because I wasn't issued with the notice in time. I can appreciate that big companies have admin procedures and these things take time, but should it really take 14 working days to pass this information on?
My question is can i get the van hire compay to pay the additional half of the charge because I wasnt issued the notice in time?
Cheers guys

Short answer? Nope.
Long answer? Read the Ts & Cs of the hire agreement you signed, but it'll almost certainly say it's your problem.
If-you-really-want-to-give-it-a-try answer? You can always write and see if they'll cough up, but you know what the answer'll be, so the only way to even try would be to take 'em to court. Good luck. If you lose (which you will) and the judge thinks that you're taking the michael (which you would be), he can order you to pay their costs.0 -
Simples... write/phone the council & explain the situation, I'll be surprised if they don't extend the discount period.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0
