Cheap number plates

I just wanted to know is it safe to get number plates made online. There are so many websites who claim to make them legally but I just wanted to be sure.

I have show plates on my car. Never been bothered by the dibble and it goes thru its MOT at the council each year.

Why not just go to a local motor factor ?
I'm sure a quick ring round off Yell will get you a local company who make them.
I can get a pair made up for around a tenner where I live

The vast majority have normal size plates. Some stuff has the option to have bigger, specially-shaped plates to fit the recess on the back better, but normal plates will work just fine.

Remember that, legally, anybody supplying plates MUST take proof of ID and proof of the car's registration - a V5C's the usual. Anybody not doing that isn't supplying them legally, but that shouldn't come back on you.

All plates made since 2001 must also have the right typeface and carry the manufacturer's details. That can come back on you... (It's been in and out of the MOT)

Standard plates are 520mm X 111mm

But there are no hard and fast rules on dimensions of the plate itself.

Many folks have shorter plates because they think it looks nice.

You'll see Rovers and jaguars with monstrous elliptical plates whichg I personally find laughable.

Plenty rules on size of letters and font.

Also rules on spacing of course.
