Barclaycard!!!

I have only one credit card now - Barclaycard.

At the beginning of this year they reduced my credit limit suddenly to £700 - this was after the balance was finally cleared in November.
They also withdrew my cash facility (big deal! I never used it).

Since then, I've paid full balance every month, but today wanted to buy something online. Prefer only to use this card online, so called them to increase my limit (it was a large purchase - cost more than my credit limit).
Answer - NO!
Then she said "can i help you with anything else today?" - hardly I thought.

Had to pay with my debit card. Which had to be funded by my savings, so I've lost interest for the next 2 weeks.

Point is this - I no longer have any unsecured debt, just a mortgage.
We have a large disposable income these days (>£2000).
What's their problem???

Is it just that they're not making money from me any more.....

  • You either have a poor credit rating, dont make enough money or dont make them enough money, you decide.

I check my credit rating - nothing wrong with it.
    I earn £30K.
    What do you think?
I've had this card for 22 years!

apply for another card, if you always pay the full amount on your card each month try the EGG MONEY card (not the egg card) as they give you 1% cashback.

Ask them why, they're the ones who know the answers.

Bclys would only reduce your limit and withdraw the cash option if you have had difficulty paying the facility. On the other hand they may have been provided with some additionl information from your credit file. If you have paid everything fine then I would get a copy of your credit file and call Customer services to ask why, they are obliged to provide a reason for this action.

Their problem is that they have spent years lending recklessly, bad debts are rising, so they are just randomly cutting limits 'based on information received from credit reference agencies'. Give it a few years when we all start getting used to life without credit cards, profits plummet, and they will head back to Square One begging us all to have cards.

I got a Barclaycard in 2003 for the 0% LOB offer. I spend a small amount each month to keep the 0% going and pay the minimum amount by direct debit.

This month they have increased my limit and offered me 0% balance transfers until July 2008 with 3% fee to thank me for being a 'long-standing existing customer'.

They are not reducing everyone's credit limit and if they reduced mine I'd want to know why.
  • Hi Chris2000
Like you , I have received this offer. I cannot see any snags, but I am suspicious, and wonder whether I have misunderstood something..
I have £1000 left on my 0% LOB offer, and I am tempted to repay this and take the new offer (90% of 6000), although the interest I would earn on this, less the 3% fee, until July 2008 is not much greater than I would earn on the remaining LOB for another 4 years or so .
Is it significant, I wonder, that the "BT" must be done using a Barclaycard cheque.?

    Any thoughts ?
