Best deal around at the moment TV/Broadband

Hi

current contract has ended with sky (along with discounts) so looking around at best deals.
Spend about £56pm with TV entertainment (inc HD), unlimited broadband, phone, and line rental. Only really watch Sky one, Atlantic, Discovery, History, and don't use phone so wondering whether to look at streaming tv like lovefilm/Netflix and doing away with tv package and just upgrade to fibre broadband to cope with it.

Asked sky and they said only deal is to upgrade to sky sports and get 2 years free broadband. Don't watch sports so not much of a deal in my eyes.

Was offered Virgin big bundle for £15 pm for 6 months, then £30 pm on 18 month contract (plus £15 line rental) but would still have to download/stream so not really much benefit.

What does everyone do these days? Are we more of a streaming society?

Why do these companies do deals that all save money banking on you having a phone line?? I DON'T USE A HOME PHONE and if I have fibre, have no need for a line at £15ish pm !!!

Thanks in advance for help/comments

It's fibre to the cabinet - a copper landline is needed to carry the broadband the 'last mile' (with the exception of Virgin, which uses its underground coaxial cable network for the last part).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

If you just want to go down the streaming option and you are in a cable area then the best "deal" is this which is available from Broadband Choices or Uswitch websites.
If you pay the line rental up-front for 12 months it's unbeatable for such a fast connection, The cheaper tv packages are a lot to pay to receive channels that are mostly free.

You could have gotten a better deal from Sky though, IMO. Call them after it goes off if you want the same package on a better price.
