Hi,

I'm a newbie to all this but wondering if someone to could help?

My partner parked vehicle at the side of a bay not obstructing it use however got a parking ticket from a private parking company.

They issued a windscreen ticket but got the registration number wrong but pictures were taken so my question is what should we do pay it? appeal it or ignore it?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Welcome to MSE. Newbies on this forum should always read the top thread first which is why it's worded that way in the title! Wait and see when and if a NTK arrives as long as it's not a company/hire/courtesy/lease car.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

    Hi,

Okay just read the Annual Popla Report 2013 and this is relevant to you:
    Parking charge notice (PCN)
The operator should always produce a copy of the parking charge notice. It is appreciated that not all ticket issuing systems produce a ‘carbon’ copy and computer generated reproductions are acceptable. However, these must be true copies and must show all relevant details including the amount of the parking charge, the discounted amount and payment periods.

The details on the parking charge notice cannot be changed once issued. If the operative makes a mistake before issuing it, for example by entering an incorrect vehicle registration mark, then the parking charge notice should be voided and a new one issued.

Schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 provides certain statutory requirements for notices that are issued under the keeper liability provisions. These must be strictly adhered to and a failure to provide all the required information will render the notice invalid, whether or not there has been any disadvantage caused to the recipient.

There is no express provision in Schedule 4 for the parking charge notices issued to the vehicle at the time and, unlike the position for Scotland and Northern Ireland, the BPA Code of Practice does not prescribe the requirements for such parking charge notices in England and Wales. However, Schedule 4 could be seen as a
good guide and since it is the parking charge notice itself that will be cancelled should the appeal be allowed, then clearly it must have the relevant information on it. It is not correct, as has been suggested, that information on the parking charge is not important and can even be changed later.

So just as a motorist is told in a Pay&Display, entering a wrong registration makes their paid ticket void! Thus PPCs who produce incorrect PCNs are also void :T

So I change my earlier opinion to ignore!

If they send you a notice with a "corrected version". Write one letter back stating the original PCN is void and warn them that further correspondence will be deemed as an act of harrassment and they will be reported to the police using the Protection from Harrassment Act 1997 and that damages will be claimed from them. Remember to get a free certificate of posting.

Other than that, go live life peacefully without fear of a PPC :)

Chances are the owner of the incorrect registration will receive the NtK as the DVLA will provide their details to the PPC.

We look forward to a new post from them in a couple of weeks.
