Hi
Just a quick question - how do DCA's get hold of your contact numbers? Is there anyway to put a stop to this?
Thanks in advance!

There are a number of methods of avoiding (or at least reducing the chances of) them ringing you.
Never ring them from a domestic/personal phone.
Go ex directory - no calls offered.
Don't have a land line.0 -
How do they get hold of the number in the first place though?0
-
not absolutely sure, but I'd imagine:-
From you ringing them.
From the telephone directory/directory enquiries.0 -
Haven't called them, and the number is ex directory. Stupid DCA's0
-
Just be careful what you agree to if you ever give your number out to a company or organisation, on an application form, website or wherever.
The credit reference agencies and other tracing companies have databases of numbers from sources like that that a debt collection company can search.

Actually, I'd say the DCAs are quite clever (rather than stupid), given they have found your number.
Just a thought, did you put your phone number on the original Credit Application?0 -
Hi
No I never give the home number out as it is ex directory for one, as have had malicious calls in the past and it is my parents number not mine.
Thanks0 -
Fermi thanks for the link!
Do you think it would be possible to ask them not to give the number out?0 -
Possible you could do, but first you would need to establish where the info came from. The company I gave was just the first example I found. There are quite a lot of others so most likely a futile exercise.
Probably better to tell whoever is phoning you to remove your number from their company records and not to phone again, saying you will report them to the authorities if they do not.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I have already phoned them this morning, so hopefully that should put a stop to them.
Things at home have just about improved, after having moved out due to domestic reasons and having fall ill. I don't really want the boat rocked again.0
