Hi All,

Many Thanks for a very useful site !

I managed to receive a PCN yesterday on my windscreen.
I was visiting the UK and was driving a rental car. I am resident in Ireland.

I would appreciate any advice on how to proceed with the appeal. I have read the newbies guide, but wonder in this instance will LPS come after an Irish resident ?

Should I appeal as soon as possible using the template letter ?

I would adapt the template to start 'I am the driver' and make sure it has your home address on it of course. Remove the bit that says you won't help them about who was driving (you will see what I mean, remove bits and adapt it to make it your own as Louis Walsh says!). Get proof of posting (NOT SIGNED-FOR!).

Also email the rental firm and tell them they have no authority to pay any money to LPS if LPS should write to them next month* or whenever, since under the POFA 2012 you have discharged any possible liability they 'may' have had, by appealing (show them your letter). When the hire firm write back and pretend they can do what they like as it's in the t&cs about penalties and fines(!) reply and tell them this is no such thing and they had better go away and read up on Schedule 4 of POFA 2012 because the keeper/owner (them) has zero liability once a private parking scumbag firm has the name and address of the driver.

    * LPS must NOT write to them but it's best to cover yourself. If it did happen you could complain to the BPA as you've appealed as driver.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Also tell the rental firm that if they charge your credit card in contravention of your express warning that they have no authority you will report the matter to the card company as an unauthorised transaction.
