Hi
I have a slightly strange quote to paint my house (London based). The decorator wants to charge me 15% more if I use a paint other than white.
Is this reasonable? Sounds odd to me.
Thank you.

Trade white paint can often be bought in much larger quantities e.g. 10 litres (and more) as opposed to the 5 litres that is usually the maximum for colour and works out cheaper per litre.
Also he won't have to spend time carefully cutting in.0 -
It's just a labour quote, I am supplying the paint. It is all Dulux and an off the shelf tin of Tulux at that.0

He really doesn't like cutting in then0 -
Get other quotes. He's not a decorator.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Did he give a reason?. Is he racist?0

Cheers, I'm still waiting for a sensible reason but plainly I'm not the only one who finds it odd!0

Perhaps he's factoring in for people not to like the colour when he has already started it!:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

More coats needed? Therefore more labour?
Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.0 -
does he know that you intend to use a colour, or when he saw the job were you undecided .0

Trade quantities are not bought in 5 ltr drums, but 20 ltrs. If they are buying cheap DIY stuff they might but 10's. The white is cheaper and they can buy it in bits.
Good contractors use acrylic based, breathable and now they can supply heat reflective for hot or south facing walls.
Airless sprayers are also standard equipment.
Extra for colours........... BULL.
BUT watch out for planning in London, some boroughs still demand base colours. and PP, before you can paint.
Any pictures ???? I will offer a price that we used to charge just for comparison. (North UK prices)
