Our Ideal Classic boiler has stopped working and the heat exchanger is totally rusted with rust dripping down the wall. It was installed in our new build at the end of 2007. The plumber doesn't think it is worth fixing-are these usually that far gone in 6 1/2 years?! It is hooked up to a Gledhill BoilerMate SP thermal store which we believe to be still working but our plumber suggested we just replace the whole system with a combi boiler as this would save us money and hassle in the next few years (at a cost of £2000). We are new to owning our own home and have no idea whether any of this sounds reasonable. Any thoughts much appreciated.

I don't know-I can't see a model number or code anywhere? I rang Ideal today and they said all their boilers but one have a two year guarantee but should last around ten years so they were surprised to hear ours had died (not that there is anything they can do except charge us £250 for an Ideal engineer to confirm the diagnosis!).0
