You're a better driver than i'll ever be, mine could only manage 30mpg when i had my halo firmly in place, other wise 27mpg was the usual, but it had the auto box so probably 3 mpg down on what a manual could manage.
If anything following new injectors under goodwill (yes mine started the rattle of death) plus reflashed ECU, the fuel consumption was worse.

Yeah I`ve got to agree my mpg is the exception rather than the rule but nevertheless averaged 38.3 over the 7k miles I`ve checked.(Fuelly)
The injector problem you mentioned was a bummer but hasn`t affected the Hilux since 2007/8 and was covered by the warranty as you`ll know.

The Navara runs in 2wd for most of the time anyway doesn't it?

It doesn't have the Auto function like the Pathfinder but i am certain its selectable.

If i was looking for a double cab i would have a look at The Auctioneers down in Merthr.

They have lots of ex lease and ex local authority double cabs.

Many are Ford Ranger and L200 but should be cheap enough if you like white.

    Forgot to add.

If you want half decent fuel consumption from a Navara then go for an older D40 shape in Euro 3 spec with a manual box.

The previous model had bottom end issues.

A good specialist for these is Bilcar.

They will crack 30mpg easily enough with more on a long run.

I was going to say, across the pond SUVs and pickups which are actually 2WD are plentiful, if not more common than 4x4s!
