Decoration for 2-bed flat

Options
Hello,

I received a quote of £1800 to redecorate my 2 bedroom flat with below measurements.

Lounge/Diner - 13'10 x 13'8 into bay(4.2m x 4.2m into bay )
Kitchen - 11'2 x 5'6(3.4m x 1.7m )
Bedroom One - 11'2 x 9'10 max(3.4m x 3.0m max )
Bedroom Two - 11'2 x 6'8(3.4m x 2.0m )
Bathroom - 11'5 x 4'10(3.5m x 1.5m )

Work to be done

- kitchen (remove wallpaper, apply PVA on walls, skim walls with two coats of multi finish plaster, apply mist coat, paint with two coats of dulux vinyl matt emulsion)
- walls in rest of the house (fill up where required, gently sand down, paint with two coats of dulux vinyl matt emulsion)
- ceilings (paint with two coats of dulux trade vinyl matt white emulsion, in bathroom we will use dulux moisture
resistant paint)
- woodwork (make good with two parts wood filler and decorators caulk, sand down, paint with one coat of dulux
trade oil based undercoat and finish with one coat of dulux trade oil based satinwood, varnished doors will require one coat of undercoat and two coats of satinwood)
- remove carpets and underlay
- remove old silicone in bathroom and apply new one
- fit old access panel in bathroom back to the bath frame, cut opening for new one and fit new access panel
- fix outside where is virgin cable by using silicone
- fix damaged wardrobe doors
They will provide all materials except paint for the walls. I was asked to buy 5L per room.

Can anyone advise if this is a fair price? Thank you for your help.

£1,800 divided by five rooms = £360 a room, plus the wall paint.

They are also doing a few things outside of a decorator's domain.

I think this is quite high but maybe acceptable, if they do a superb job...

Did they give you a timescale? I mean, £1800 would be ridiculous for a week's work but acceptable if they are doing a month's full time work.

My decorator charges me £10 an hour.

    What do others think?

£10 an hour for decorators is too cheap. I pay my decorators between £110 and £130 a day.

The work in the OPs quote is beyond the scope of most decorators, so they may be subbing part of it to say a plasterer, which will add to the cost. £1800 is a pretty fair price.

Well he sets his own price ~ I found him in the local paper. I'm hardly going to try to haggle his price UPwards.

Very professional, 30 years experience, tidies up after, perfect job every time. He even has a website with before-and-after photos of the jobs he's done.
