hey guys this is my very first post so i apologies if im in the wrong section.
my son is soon to turn 17 and for the last year or so he's been constantly hinting that he would like to drive by the time he is 18.
me and his father haven't yet purchased a car for him.but family members and friends have brought to our attention that the cost of car insurance is very expensive for young drivers and i was wondering if anyone knows the cheapest possible car insurance company's around at the moment as we have searched for mainstream websites such as compare the market and prices have been well over three thousand pound. All help will be gratefully received!
thank you for your time.

There are too many variables, you will find one youngster who says Admiral is the cheapest for them and Direct Line was 3 times the price. Another says DL is cheapest for them and Admiral wouldnt even quote for them.
You simply need to follow the guides on this site to check the aggergators like confused.com and the players who dont go on their using the tricks like adding an experience named driver (namely one or both of you)
Where you live and what car you are quoting on will also have a significant impact on premium which explains why different people have different experiences with different insurers0 -

I've heard it can be beneficial to add a named driver (presumably older) to the policy.
And fully comp is not always more expensive than TPFT.

Just a word of warning if you buy him a car and he is the main driver put him down as that do not be tempted to insure the car and put him down as a named driver to lower the premium, it is illegal and called fronting and in the case of an accident the insurance company may not pay out.0

Just to clarify.
It *may* be cheaper to add an experienced motorist (mum?, dad?) as a named driver with your son as the main driver.
DO NOT insure the vehicle in your name as the main driver and have him as a named driver. This is illegal and if proven, could void your cover.
