Sri Lankan honeymoon

Hello,

We're planning our honeymoon for June 2008 and are thinking about going to Sri Lanka. There's so many options and differing reviews online for various hotels. Can any MSE's make any suggestions of where to stay and/or what to se whilst we're there?

Cheers ;)

Sri Lanka ..... Gorgeous People ..... Beautiful Country. :)

What do you want from a hotel?

If you want peace, tranquility, a place to be together, stunning views, lovely food and a secluded location.... go for the Hunas Falls hotel.

Too many hotels around the world could be anywhere in the world, one Sheraton is much like the next, a Rotana hotel is a Rotana hotel wherever you are, one Hilton hotel is the same as any other, etc, etc.

The Hunas Falls hotel does not promote itself very well, but for me, it was the dogs nuts, and I'll try to dig out some pics.

It's not the most sumptuous or luxurious hotel in Sri Lanka, but it is beautiful, very comfortable, tranquil, earthy, in a stunning location, real, in keeping with the mountains, miles away from anyone, atop a mountain, at times above the mist and clouds, with top notch staff, top notch food, food grown or reared locally and it is just firkin ace. ;)

As you will see, online literature is poor, but if you want the above, you will find it at Hunas Falls. :)

If you want the "standard" luxury honeymoon hotel, the lighthouse at Galle is a lovely spot, but no doubt others will have better suggestions in that category. :D

My sister got married at the Bentota Beach hotel prior to the Tsunami, they had a fab time. They had a trip to the elephant festival or something in Candy. They and the other people who went said they would all go again.

Kandalama - one of my favourite hotels in the world! Havn't been for a few years, but i'm sure Trip Advisor will let you know if the quality is still there! Damn good value as well!

If you contact them you can arrange a private candlelit dinner in the hotels massive in-house cave! More romantic than it sounds!
