Moving to house that has a pre payment meter

Hi, We are moving to another house in the next week or two, we currently have credit meters with npower and have a debit outstanding with them.
The new house is supplied by British Gas, and the electric is on a pre payment meter.
Will Npower create a final bill for us, or will they make us change the BG prepayment meter to one of theirs and take the debt that way?

You can start afresh and decide how you want to pay off the remaining debt - npower cannot become involved with your new property unless you choose to invite them. Of course you will have to arrange to pay off the debt - you will receive greater flexibility over repayment terms if you choose the prepayment meter but you probably ought to try to afford a final bill if you can.

One of you is talking about debit, the other debt. I'm unsure who is on the right track.

When you move out, be sure to read all the meters and inform npower, who will generate a final bill. If there is an amount outstanding you should pay it by whatever means works for you. If you have a direct debit set up, then they will debit it from you a week or so after providing the final statement.
At the new place, read the meters, contact BG who are the supplier, and with whom you have a deemed contract.
Because the electricity meter there is prepayment you will need to use that method for a start.
Then you can decide - stay with BG and ask them for a new meter, or change supplier with the prepayment meter, followed by ask new supplier for new meter.
You will get off the prepayment system quicker if you stay with BG at least until after the meter has been changed.
After that you could switch supplier if you don't like BG's tariffs.

NPower will expect you to pay all the outstanding debt once you close the a/c. It may be possible to negotiate a staged repayment, but they're not obliged to offer you this.
You can't take the debt over to a new property supplied by someone else.
