Natwest cannot find me...

I tried a few weeks back to instigate a claim with Natwest for bank charges and overdraft fees which put me into considerable hardship. As I'm having money difficulties at the moment I wanted to explore all opportunities at recovering payments etc.

Despite quoting my sort code and former Natwest account number, they claim they cannot find me. Is there a time limit with a bank retaining account details on closed accounts, or do they always have a record somewhere ? Or am I being fobbed off...

I recall when I was younger having a savings account with Halifax. When I recently enquired about opening an account with them, they found me from over 30 years ago!!

TIA
Simon

You will never receive a refund of charges and overdraft fees on a closed account.

You need to be in current financial hardship and still be a customer in order to have any hope of a refund. The Bank are under no obligation to refund anything in any case...

You are basically wasting your time..

Data is destroyed over time in accordance with the data protection act. it can be possible to find certain bits of info over a long period but key things, like statements, can vanish from records after 6 years.

The more important thing here is what is mentioned in the post above. Financial hardship refunds refer to current financial hardship. If this account is closed and by the sounds of it, closed a long time ago, then there is little or no reason for the bank to consider a current financial hardship goodwill gesture. The account isnt open and current or recent charges are not being created.
